A disorganized & incomplete Assemblage / Disassemblage post // Un post incompleto y desorganizado de Ensamblaje / Desensamblaje

The end of 2023/beginning of 2024: I'm saying goodbye to this gorgeous wreck of a house that I loved  ...  tried to fix and had turned into a large-scale installation. 

*Its significance in my life was charged by the fact that I'd spent my last afternoon in Oaxaca on its upstairs porch w/acquaintances in 1996, the first time I lived in Oaxaca, and the next morning, left on a bus to move to Mexico City. //

Finales de 2023/comienza de 2024: me despido de esta hermosa casa en ruinas que amaba ... traté de arreglar y se había convertido en una instalación a gran escala instalación.

*Su importancia en mi vida se debió al hecho de que pasé mi última tarde en Oaxaca en su porche de arriba con conocidos en 1996, la primera vez que viví en Oaxaca, y a la mañana siguiente, me subí a un autobús y me mudé a la Ciudad de México. 

 

  

I thought I was completing some kind of psychic circle, but the house didn't love me back although I continued to be entranced with aspects of it (skies, lights & shadows inside & outside and its 'rustic charm' [!]) ... //  

Pensé que estaba completando algún tipo de círculo psíquico, pero la casa no me amaba, aunque seguí fascinado con algunos aspectos de ella (cielos, luces y sombras adentro y afuera y su 'encanto rústico' [!]) ...

... when I wasn't fighting with other aspects of it (read termites, plentiful insects of every variety and the crown jewel, a huge black scorpion sighted the night before Christmas, 2023. //  

... cuando no estaba luchando con otros aspectos (léase termitas, abundantes insectos de todo tipo y la joya de la corona, un enorme escorpión negro avistó la noche antes de Navidad, 2023.

 

I made various improvements w/the understanding that I could take their costs off the rent (replaced a completely termite-eaten wall of wood-framed windows, installed hot water in the kitchen, replaced old faucets & toilets, installed a manually-operated rain guard on the mtn. side of the porch where, during  rainy season, the house flooded from fierce horizontal rain, painted the bricks white in the studio & bedroom upstairs to lighten up the place, etc. & painted the beams downstairs to likewise lighten the place up all had the added benefit of making the house's other various problems seem less significant for awhile although all painting was done at my own expense.   //                                                                      

Hice varias mejoras con el entendimiento de que podría deducir sus costos de la renta (reemplacé una pared  de ventanas con marco de madera completamente carcomida por las termitas, instalé agua caliente en la cocina, reemplacé grifos e inodoros viejos, instalé un sistema operado manualmente contra la lluvia (como cortina de plástico transparente) que entro al porche del lado de la montaña, donde, durante la temporada de lluvias, la casa se inundaba debido a una fuerte lluvia horizontal, también pintó los ladrillos de blanco en el estudio y el dormitorio de arriba para iluminar los cuartos, etc. y pintó las vigas de abajo para iluminar también. Todo esto tenía el beneficio adicional de hacer que los otros problemas de la casa parecieran mucho menos importantes por un tiempo aunque todo la pintura la hice por mi cuenta.    

                                                                                                                   

   

 

 

I even had an agreement with a wasp hive:  if they didn't bother me or my cat, I wouldn't bother them and they could expand their hive as necessary. // Incluso tenía un acuerdo con una colmena de avispas:  si no me molestaban a mí ni a mi gata, yo no los molestaría y podían ampliar su colmena según fuera necesario.

 

 

 

Nonetheless, I wrote, made art, watched shadows dance around the house, drank coffee in the mornings while gazing out at the mountains, drank various liquids alone and with friends both upstairs and downstairs and enjoyed this house  ... but ... I'm Done!  //                                    

Sin embargo, escribí, hice arte, vi sombras bailar alrededor de la casa, tomé café por las mañanas contemplando las montañas, bebí varios líquidos solo y con amigos tanto arriba como abajo y disfruté de esta casa ... pero... Ya terminé!
